RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

tulirose - what can I say? I'm a slow learner. I usually hang out in the campervan forum, but I lurk here to see the pretty pictures. I knew that Marites is here alot and that she would see my birthday wishes. Becky - I like the idea of putting the collected rocks into the landscaping at home! My daughter is always picking up rocks from every trip and it usually frustrates my husband when he finds a bag here, a tin there, a bucket here - all filled with rocks! - Ceril (Marites' "kid" sister - by the forum estimations that would make me 18 or 19!)

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

Thanks for the welcome! sukerpooch - I'm really loving the pics - we had the pleasure of going to the Michigan UP in July and had a really great time. I'll try to post a few pics of our boatride at painted rocks. http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp77/cerilak/paintedrocks3.jpg http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp77/cerilak/paintedrocks4.jpg http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp77/cerilak/paintedrocks.jpg http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp77/cerilak/paintedrocks2.jpg

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

I've never posted a pic here so hopefully this works! Happy Birthday, Marites! http://i399.photobucket.com/albums/pp77/cerilak/camping.jpg (Most of the gang - with Marites - camping at Spruce Run NJ on Labor Day weekend) OK - I think I fixed it now!

RE: Having trouble justifying costs

I think having the van has "spoiled" hotels for me forever! Not having to wonder who used those sheets last time? Really! On the flip side, seeing a few of the campground bathroom facilities - I can't see camping any other way...

RE: New England journey over

Cool, I've been meaning to check out panther lake, had heard good things about it. The golf cart thingy is disturbing, I agree.

RE: Having trouble justifying costs

I guess it all depends on your math. CREATO described a pretty skivvy $68/night hotel - ewww! Before we bought our B - when the kids were smaller - we were trying to get away for a weekend every other month - sometimes to NYC where a nice hotel ran us $350+/night plus $100/day to eat not to mention the cost of tickets to whatever. Running those numbers - we break about even. We've definitely camped more than a weekend every other month plus we use the B for day trips to the park, baseball games, etc. The kids totally look forward to our camping trips.

RE: Campsites Along Lakes in Pennsylvania?

Not in PA - but you could try Spruce Run in NJ has some lakefront sites - but there are only a few so, getting them on the day that you want may be tough.

RE: Looking for favorite Mi campgrounds.

We just got back from 10 days up in Mackinac with a couple days in the UP. I'm going to second munising tourist park - we went there last minute on our way up to take a boat tour of the pictured rocks. Even though we were in the 4th "row" away from the lake - we had a great view. Nice big fire rings (not like the dinky fire "pans" that they gave us at mackinaw mill creek) Next time we'll probably try out Wilderness State Park. The kids loved Mackinaw mill creek - we had a nice water/electric site that was pretty wooded/private. The full-hookup waterfront sites looked like a parking lot.

RE: Washing Your Feet In A 'B'

I've thought of getting this little gizmo called "soapy soles foot scrubber" from www.neatitems.com http://neatitems.com/images/elite-clear-blue.jpg height=200 width=200

RE: Does your B have a name?

We call ours the "Escape hatch", but in day to day use, I usually call it the "van" or "truck".

RE: B's Limited Space and Grills

OK, I know this isn't a propane grill - but I thought it was a cool design flat folding BBQ http://www.likecool.com/Home/Outdoor/Notebook%20Portable%20Flat-Folding%20BBQ/Notebook-Portable-Flat-Folding-BBQ.jpg height=235 width=118

RE: A great afternoon - working on the Sprinter

Thanks for the post - I've been thinking about doing this modification - curious to hear how you like the results. I've switched out the shocks/springs on my other toy (little mazda miata) before - but haven't thought about modifying the sprinter yet. Lately I've been thinkinig that there is a little too much "bounce" in the suspension. I guess the last camground that we were in had some uneven pavement at the entrance and even when taking it slow caused a good deal of "rocking" in the cabin often causing something to jump off a shelf.

RE: Seasonal sites near central NJ

Are they looking for something like this? http://www.laurelpond.com/ I think I called once and the sites were something like $90K+ to buy. Were they looking to buy a seasonal site? We've also been to www.mountain-view-campground.com in northwest NJ - not a lot of bells and whistles but we were looking to be closer to nature than to our fellow campers and they appeared to have a bunch of seasonal campers and it didn't seem full on memorial day weekend.

RE: 2005 MB Cruiser Specs....

We've had the a/c leak into the cabin on really humid days and found out that the drain tube was clogged. Had to bring it into the dealer, they had to drop the a/c out to get to everything - clear the drain tubes/pan and re-install the a/c. I've only run our fridge on battery as well - so we only use the propane for the hot water heater, and to cook breakfast in the morning (I usually grill for lunch and dinner - I'm too lazy to set up outside before I've had my coffee!) and I think we seem to use very little - at the end of every trip I check the propane level and it doesn't even seem to move. We rarely use the generator and our furnace is diesel.

RE: Trying to plan a trip to Nova Scotia

Dayle1 - Thanks for sharing those pics. I don't need to have hookups as long as I can refill our propane and water and dump our tanks every few days. I have an onboard generator that we haven't used since we usually have electric hookups when we camp - would there be a problem if I run it in the provincial park? (not during quiet hours) Generally, I'll only need to run the generator if the batteries are getting too low (but they'll recharge as we drive) or if I want to run the A/C - as I said - we actually have never used it although I start it now and again to make sure it works - so I don't really know what "generator protocol" is when camping. Curious about what was better about Blomidon than the others. Mira River and Battery are on our itinerary. Thanks for the info. - Ceril

RE: Ages of People With Class B's

31+31. I am surprised B's are not more popular with young families, they are the best way to travel with young children IMHO. Almost of of our friends (with young children) have been spellbound when we show them our van. I agree - I don't know how we survived before! We're 36 and 39 - no wonder people give us weird looks when we step out of our B! They were probably expecting someone older! They're probably not expecting humans (of any age) to step out of that unusual looking vehicle. Don't you get weird looks even when you're not stepping out of it? :W - LJZ Yup! I guess they could be expecting aliens. When we're on the way to visit friends I tell them not to be alarmed when they see the spaceship pull up their house - that's us.:p

Favorite space saving things

Just wondering if you have a favorite space saver on your B? Currently my favorites are these packing bags that I got from ll bean. http://cdni.llbean.com/is/image/wim/228934_94_41?wid=330&hei=295 and I also love my really compact, efficient, quick drying waffle weave microfiber towels! My friends say that the B is just an excuse for me to buy cool gadgets... still on the search for a compact screen house.

RE: B's Limited Space and Grills

Dredging up this old topic to see if anyone had some new suggestions/experience with the small "b-sized" portable propane grills out there. Every picture that I see seems to be too large to imagine storing in the van! We have a propane quick-connect on our on-board tank that I'd like to try using. So far, this one Coleman roadtrip Party grill seems to look like our first choice. Anyone have experience with this one? Also, anyone use the quick-connect for their propane grills? just wondering how easy it is to use.

RE: Trying to plan a trip to Nova Scotia

This will be our first extended trip in the van and I was thinking of all the great places we'll see and of places that I'll definitely want to shop! Shopping for Christmas is a great idea, but, traveling in a "B" van with 4 people leaves very little room for extra stuff! Are there other side of the road type farmers markets or supermarkets along the way? We often visit a cousin in upstate NY and we have to hit a supermarket 30 minutes before we get to her cabin otherwise, there is nothing locally. Just wondering if I need to plan the same way.
